To start off my Melbourne foodie blog posts, I share with you Top Paddock in Richmond. Prior to going away, a lot of research went into picking out the best cafes and restaurants to try out. The night before leaving I came across an article stating that Top Paddock was the best new cafe to have opened in Melbourne as of late. Flying in on the Wednesday morning we dropped our bags off at our Chapel St apartment and walked on down the road to Richmond. Luckily we had no problem getting a table and made ourselves toasty warm after the cold snap outside. Melbourne weather, you never seek to shock me with your frivolous ways.
Having gone to bed late (I left packing to the last minute) and waking up early for our flight, this Five Senses Piccolo Latte went down too well.
Interior inspiration for my house one day.
The menu is titled as an ‘all day menu’ which pretty much means you can order brunch all day long. Fantastic. I have a weird obsession with broccoli/broccolini so I couldn’t go past this dish, Two Poached Eggs with Grilled Broccolini, Broad Beans, Shaved Parmesan, Avocado and Toasted Almonds on Toast. Yes…the dish tasted as good as the photos look. I would never have matched eggs with broccoli before, but along with the parmesan and crunch of the broad beans the whole dish was a winner in my books.
Alessia chose the lunch Mixed Salad which compromises of three different salads everyday that you can pick and choose from or you can get a bit of each.
At this stage of the trip, Alessia and myself were the only ones in Melbourne so I dont have copious amounts of food dishes to share with you. Not to worry though, as the week progressed, more and more friends joined us so I got to capture a lot more when we went out.
I can completely understand why this place has been called Melbourne’s most popular new cafe. The venue is beautiful, staff welcoming, menu different and food beautifully prepared. Melbourne, you set a high benchmark for our first food venture BUT I wasn’t doubting you in the least.

Happy reading everyone, I’m off to Via Napoli for dinner (my all time favourite Sydney pizzeria which was also just voted by Time Out as the best in Sydney). When it comes to food, why settle for second best ;).
