Today I am posting on something other then my trip to shake it up a little. On Saturday morning a group of us headed to The Grounds in Alexandria for breakfast. As per usual it was raining and the complete opposite to what summer weather should be like. Prepared with umbrellas and boots we had a 30 minute wait for a table which gave us enough time to grab a coffee and sit outside (undercover) whilst we waited.
Fellow table waiters.
The gardens in The Grounds, plenty of herbs and plant life…with the occasional rose bush as well.
All black everything Alessia with her Chai Latte.
Inside bar where you can order takeaway coffees and also take away food.
Sweet display – I was convinced I would order something sweet after I ate my breakfast but I was too full. Gives me the excuse to come back again.
Sourdough loaves to take home.
Doughnuts filled with chocolate or jam…
Omorfi parea – Beautiful company.
On to my second piccolo latte for the morning….caffeine fiend
Dennaki with his morning OJ.
Old school water jugs for the table.
Animated conversation between Alessia and I…
Now for the food…
I went with the Zaátar pita and added two poached eggs. The pita was topped with tomatoes, avocado, parsley, quinoa and feta. I am not too sure if you were meant to roll this up and start eating it, but I stuck to the safe version of using my knife and fork.
Ooozing egg yolks..
Jes went with the healthy fruit plate option…Since she doesn’t like mango I had the pleasure of eating that for her. The rest of the plate consisted of watermelon, orange, honeydew, plum, strawberry and apple.
The breakfast burger…I had a slight bout of food envy when I saw this. The burger is on a brioche bun with a fried egg, avocado, lettuce, bacon, cheese and tomato relish.
Nick had the sourdough toast topped with smashed peas, slow braised ham hock and parmesan with an added side of poached eggs.
Last but not least Isi ordered the breakfast board which came with sourdough toast, avocado, feta, pesto, tomatoes and poached eggs. The menu item comes with ham but Isi swapped it out for ocean trout instead.

mmm gooey egg yolk porn
You can never have enough oozing egg yolk in breakfast pics!
We went to go here once last year but the line up was SO huge that we’ve never tried to go back…it scared me! LOL. The food does look really good though…one day if I get a mid-week day off work I might try again.
First time I went to go was over the Christmas break and they were closed…fail! On Saturday the wait was ok, maybe the rain deterred a lot of people from venturing out. Definitely a nice breakfast/lunch spot to visit.
Anything with ham hock is instantly a winner! Love this place
