On a rainy Saturday morning, The Frist Drop Cafe in East Redfern was our choice for breakfast. The cafe was super busy considering the weather so we grabbed a table outside under the heater. Loving the yellow door which welcomes you into the cafe.
We were handed our funky hessian menus and had a look through the many choices, eggs were on my mind this morning. George’s friend is a chef at the cafe, and I believe he had a big influence on the menu with a lot of Mediterranean/Greek ingredients being used. such as fetta, haloumi, spanakopita, chorizo and ricotta.
I went with a vegetarian option, the ricotta breakfast. Toasted sourdough topped with ricotta cheese, grilled tomatoes, spinach, avocado and two soft poached eggs.
This is what I call the perfect start to the morning. The bread crunchy, lightly spread with creamy ricotta. Roasted tomatoes drizzled in olive oil and silky yolk innards from the poached egg.
Some food porn…slashed egg!
The big mumma First Drop Breakfast….with extras.
George went with the First Drop breakfast, with his friend chucking a few extras in on the side. Generally you would get your choice of eggs with bacon, sausage, spinach, grilled tomatoes and toast. Added extras were the hash brown, extra bacon and tomatoes and fetta cooked through the scrambled eggs (if you havent tried fetta in eggs…I definitely recommend). As you can see, this is the breakfast of champions, with George getting through all of it except some of the bread..good effort!
Shame on the rainy weather, the outdoor seats would be perfect on a nicely weathered day to enjoy breakfast in some sunshine.
Random photo of a beautiful street I shot from the car…such amazing trees, would suck to clean up those leaves though.
I leave you with a balsamic reduction heart :).
