On Saturday morning I woke up to sun streaming through the blinds which only means one thing…Pick a breakfast spot where we can sit outside, enjoy the weather and get a vitamin D hit. Having heard a lot about the Boathouse in Palm Beach, and seeing many a photo of their new cafe at Balmoral Beach, it was an easy pick for our breakfast destination.
Situated on the sand, right next to the wharf where I spent many a summer jumping off, the location is perfect. There is seating flowing around the side and the back opens out onto the actual boat shed.
We take a seat out the back and let the sun glare over us whilst we wait for the others. The beautiful thing about this place is how much detail goes in to the decor. I was having a field day, snapping a way at every little thing that I saw (hence the copious amount of photos in this post…I couldn’t choose to leave any out).
You have to queue up and order for your food at the counter, this was the only downfall as we waited for about thirty minutes to get to the front of the line.
At least whilst waiting we got to spy on all the menu items being placed on the pass and had a better idea of what we wanted to order.
Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice.
Pretty in pink.
The food came out pretty quickly and we each dug into our beautifully assembled breakfasts. Damo orders the Smoked Salmon with Poached Eggs, Kale Potato Bake and Watercress.
I order the Avocado, Tomato, Goats Curd & Basil on Charred Toast. I’ve never been served a half piece of toast before but I guess there is a first time for everything. The goats cheese is amazing and adds that slight tanginess, teamed with the charred toast which has this smokey flavour infused through the crusty bread.
Alessia orders the Quinoa Bircher served with Yoghurt, Grated Apple, Dates Rhubarb and Toasted Nuts. I love how these healthy superfoods are making their way on to menus everywhere and it’s the perfect option for someone who is gluten free. Check out my post on Three Blue Ducks in Bronte for some more quinoa breakfast items.
Jes goes for the Poached Green Eggs with Bacon, Roast Tomatoes on Sourdough Toast. The presentation is beautiful and ensures that we all have food envy of each others dishes.
As pretty as a picture, The Boathouse Balmoral is definitely one to put on the bucket list, save it for a sunny day to make it that extra bit more special and you won’t be disappointed. The menu prices are similar to any other cafe that is situated near a beach, but at least with this one you are literally feet away/above from the water.
