Welcome Thursday night…today is one of the last nights I will have sleeping in my own bed for a while. The next three weeks are full of three very exciting trips:
1. I leave tomorrow night to fly to Brisbane for #EDB14 – Eat, Drink Food Bloggers Conference. Bring on meeting fellow food bloggers, talking about food & eating it too. Check out the cute-as-pie business cards I got printed.
2. On Monday & Tuesday I will be onboard Carnival Legend – the newest cruise ship to call Australia home..haha I sound like a right old marketer when I type that. But yes, I will be onboard for work as there is media stuff going on and then our sail away party.
3. Next Saturday…I’m out of here to Miami!! Oh em gee!! Yess I am helluva excited. Again, this one is for work and I will be visiting for training in our head office. I wish it was all going to be sun, fun & food – but I will try and fit a little bit in. I’ll be lugging my camera along to all of these events, so I should have some fantastic new content coming your way.
Now back to last weekend…it was time to brunch. We decided to visit Ruby’s Diner; Time Out’s best cafe award winner for 2014.
The place was super busy so we got straight to ordering as we were starving. The coffee was a slight distraction, and helped to satiate our hunger ever so slightly. Piccolo for I, and Cappuccino for he.
I have been to many busy restaurants in my time…but generally I find that once you’re seated and have ordered, the food comes out pretty quickly. Heck, I even waited four hours for a table at Chin Chin in Melbourne! Unfortunately, this was not the case on Sunday morning. Yes the place was super busy….but the food took forever (about 45 minutes). It felt even more drawn out because we were so hungry already! It was a slight dampener for the morning, but at least the food that eventually was served, was yummy to make up for the wait.
Up first is the Coconut Quinoa Bircher with Apple, Pear, Pistachio & Coconut Caramel. Fresh as a daisy on the plate, the addition of the coconut caramel gets a big tick in my books to sweeten things up a little..
Next is the Scrambled Eggs on Toast with a side of Bacon and Mushrooms. Cooked well and the bacon crisp, the eggs are funnily enough served with lemon throughout. It’s an interesting flavour, and not one I have paired with eggs before. Probably best to ask them not to add it if you don’t like lemon with your breakfast. Only problem is that they don’t mention the interesting ingredient on the menu. A pleasant surprise!
I’d like to say that my breakfast choice wins the prize for best looking dish of the day..So rustic! This was the Avocado & Roast Tomato on Soy & Linseed Toast with Apple Balsamic and a Poached Egg. The balsamic is perfectly acidic and sweet, and I happily devour the whole plate. By this time, it was approximately 1.30pm in the afternoon. I have normally had breakfast, a snack and am on to lunch by this time on a weekday #hungry.
Oh and whilst we were waiting, we had ordered some more beverages. This here is the Chai Tea with Almond Milk. So so good, and something I want to try and make at work…but for some reason, I just know it wont taste the same!
Loving these super cool aprons that half of the Sydney food scene is now sporting. Very chic!
Overall, the food was pretty damn good, just a shame about the super long wait. Maybe we just got them on a bad day.

I wan’t to get in now and mention that I will most likely be MIA until I am back from Miami baby!! Until then, keep eating & I will speak to you soon :)
