Howdy Doo Da. Very sorry for my blogging absence as of late, life has been very busy, but the eating has definitely not slowed down so I have a back log of posts to get through. Soooooo I’m super excited because on Wednesday morning I am flying down to Melbourne for six days with my gal pals. I’m excited to eat, drink and be merry + shop till my hearts content. Checking the weather was a bit of a disappointment though, Sydney is forecast to have gloriously sunny days and Melbourne has tops of 16 and rain. Bit of a mood killer. I cant complain though, we’ll just have to make the most of it.
I headed to the Night Noodle Markets last Thursday night which is part of Good Food Month. The event is only on for the rest of this week till Saturday so I definitely recommend you check it out if you have time to do so. I’ll admit that the food is pricey for market stall type quality, but it’s the atmosphere in the park on a warm evening that really makes the event feel special.
I’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts. There they are, all standing in a row. Big ones, small ones, some as big as your head.
Arriving, we got straight into ordering some food. I hadn’t had dumplings in a long while so I grabbed a serving of the Xiao Long Bao from the New Shanghai tent.
Zora, Sinem and Tina ordered the Roti from Jackie M which came with a Dahl like sauce.
Coconuts & Ice Tea.
I opt for an alcoholic beverage, ice cold Strawberry & Lime Rekorderlig.
I next order the Vietnamese Chicken Salad from Bar Pho which is a very generous serving of shredded chicken, crunchy salad, spring onion, carrot, fried onions and chilli.
Haidi orders a serve of the Vegetarian Dumplings from New Shanghai which look like rose buds.
She also grabs some Sugar Cane Rice Paper Rolls….
….and a Vietnamese Omelette filled with prawn, pork, mint and greens from the Rolls Vietnam stall.
Before arriving at the markets and seeing what else was on offer, I had me heart set on the Mango Sticky Rice from the Chat Thai Dessert stall. They never let me down with their sweet sticky glutinous rice, specked with salty nibs and served alongside ripe mango.
That’s all for tonight folks….I hope you find time to visit the markets some time this week if you haven’t been already.
