Partying on a Monday night is not a general occurrence in my life, but when someone decides to plan something I am more then happy to get out and about. It’s a nice way to welcome the week and makes the thought of four more days till the weekend that little bit more bearable. The reason for our outing was to celebrate Aimee’s birthday, a table was booked at Mejico on Pitt Street and the fun begun.
Whilst we wait for the rest of our table to rock up, we order the Market Fresh Guacamole. They bring out each of the ingredients and then prepare it at the table in a mortar and pestle.
The Guacamole is made up of Avocado, Spanish Onion, Coriander, Lime Juice, Wasabi, Walnuts and Serrano Chilli and then served with Golden Plantain Chips. So delicious!
Next up…time to get in the spirit and order some Tequila Cocktails.
The Tequila Mockingbird…Tromba Blanco, Apple Liquor, Kiwi and Cinnamon.
My choice, the Street-Side Cooler with Tromba Blanco, Aperol, Watermelon and Basil Leaves.
Don’t take my word for it on this one but I believe this is the Devil’s Advocate, Havana Club Blanco, Lychee, Grapefruit and Campari.
Classic Margerita with Espolon Reposado, Cointreau and Agave.
The Sweet Desire of Tromba Blanco, Espolon Reposado, Lychee and Pomegranate.
We order the rest of the food which starts coming out to feed our hungry bellies. The Mango and Habanero Chilli Salsa is a hit, with Toasted Coconut, Jalapeno, Roma Tomatoes and Lime Salt. Served with more of the Plantain Chips I could’ve happily eaten this for the rest of the night.
The Birthday Girl!!
Pop some bottles of Rose =)
Next up we get a serve of the Smoked Pork Belly Tacos with Black Bean Hummus and Tomatillo Salsa.
The pork has been smoked for 20 hours which makes it so full of flavour.
I’m having a slight Ceviche craze so it was imperative that we order some of the Hiramasa Kingfish with Ruby Grapefruit, Watermelon, Pepitas, Raddish and Charred Chilli Flakes.
The fish is delicate with random bursts of heat from the chilli.
Packed out for a Monday night.
Meat lovers time. I love how all my friends pretty much eat anything, have no weird food allergies and appreciate food as much as I do. We order the Glazed Pork Ribs in a Chipotle Chilli Marinade, Blackened Corn and Polenta Chips on the side.
Our second main dish is the Chargrilled Black Angus Sirloin with Quinoa, Black Bean, Pumpkin, Pepitas and Green Chimichurri.
To finish off the savories we go for something vegetarian and get a side dish of the Croquetas filled with Sweet Potato, Cumin, Onion and Manchego.
….and also a main size of the dish, which is the Croquetas with Portobello Mushrooms, Tomatillo Salsa, Black Bean Puree and Ancho Chilli.
A ‘surprise’ birthday sparkler and sweets.
Caramel heaven in a bite, the Agave Glazed Caramel Fudge on a Vanilla Biscuit Base with Cinnamon, Pecans and Citrus Mousse.
I didn’t even bother with the mousse, the caramel fudge was perfect by itself.
Last but not least, the Fruit Hat of Pomegranate, Kiwi, Mint, Pineapple, Watermelon, Hibiscus Flower and Coconut Ice Cream. Light, fresh, tasty…and healthy? Too good.
Things started getting a little crazy.
What better way to finish off a night of celebrations then with some more Tequila! We all order something different from the menu, and I go with the Cafe Patron to have a little taste test after hearing good things. Loved the coffee flavour but it was mighty strong. I’ll save it for an espresso martini next time.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY AIMEE =)
