Ciao ciao. I always sleep so peacefully on a Thursday night knowing that the weekend is just around the corner. It’s so close I can almost taste it….literally! This weekends plans are primarily food related, as per usual. Tomorrow night Newtown is on the agenda, as I’ve been meaning to visit Bloodwood after hearing too many good things. Then Sunday will be spent at the Taste Sydney Food Festival in Centennial Park, where I will go crazy like previous years and spend way too many crowns on food, standard Kiki manoeuvre.

Before I get too carried away and dive into the weekend, I wanted to post on Da Orazio Pizza + Porchetta. Opened up by Mr. Terzini, the venue naturally breathes a cool vibe, which in my opinion is very important in the hipsterville area of Bondi Beach. It’s a Sunday night and the venue is packed out, but luckily I did my research and worked out that they take bookings up until 7.30. It is so luxurious to arrive at a popular restaurant these days and be seated straight away.

Acqua, birra, vino.

Pane from the wood fired oven cooking the pizza.

The tender Porchetta in its terracotta bowl is served with a jug of the juices, from when the meat was being cooked. The dish is extremely tender, and obviously quite fatty which gives it that amazing flavour. The squeeze of lemon adds that slight acidity to break down the heaviness of the fat.

Next out is the Squid-Ink Black Spaghetti Alla Chitarra with Prawns and Zucchini Flowers. I normally perceive pasta dishes as too heavy due to the sauce and ingredients used, but this dish was deliciously light and matched the summer season and beach location.

The other star dish from the restaurant is the pizza, cooked to perfection in the wood fire oven, Neapolitan style. I just love the chewy and puffy base with minimalist toppings. We go for a Margherita of tomato, cheese and basil. Simple, but oh so satisfying.

Dido :)

I promise that the next time I visit (and there will most definitely be a next time), I will take plenty more photos so you can see the stunning interior and open plan kitchen. It is semplicemente bellissima! Or….you could go and take a visit for yourself this weekend ;) xxx
