Cornersmith had been on the My Kiki Cake Bucket List for quite some time, but being that little bit further away from home, we kept putting it off to go visit. One Sunday, we planned in advance that we would head there for breakfast, and I’m glad we did. Not only was it nice to step-out to a different area for the morning and wander around, but the cafe itself was buzzing with a great atmosphere, and the food is all based around local and seasonal produce.
The venue is quite small and cosy and there are not a whole lot of tables inside, but we were seated right in front of menu boards and across from the barrista’s., definitelt the best seat in the house.
The beans are a Mecca Brew, which go down a treat on a Sunday morning and spruce me into waking up to decide what to eat.
The menu is not huge and cumbersome, which is nice as it makes it that little bit easier to choose what you want. This is the Soft Poached Archerfield Farm Eggs with Sourdough Toast, Turmeric & Citrus Braised Carrots, Labneh & Pasture Raised Ham. The plate is a fantastic arrangement of colours, with the carrots being an interesting breakfast item, but working quite well with their sweetness and spices.
I go with the Toasted Rye Sourdough with Avocado, Preserved Citrus, Chilli, Sprouts and Coriander. It is fresh, has that little bit of spice kick to it, and the crunch from the sprouts. I’m pretty sure you could add poached eggs to this one as well if you wanted something a bit more filling.
All of the Cornersmith labelled jars on the wall, are their own produce of pickles and relishes that are now used on their menu items, or available for purchase by customers.
